A Mind-Bending Story of Perception, Illusion, and Plastic Surgery

By Kasia Cieplak-Mayr von Baldegg

Beomsik Shimbe Shim's The Wonder Hospital, a visually stunning 3D and puppet-based animated film, defies description. It involves children and toys -- and faceless plastic surgeons sporting 3D glasses. It could be the love child of Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas and FOX's reality show about competitive surgical makeovers, The Swan. It reveals how twisted (both metaphorically and literally) our fixation on physical appearance has become. It's surreal, terrifying, and totally captivating. You'll have to trust me on this one.
