The Story of Color Television

By Kasia Cieplak-Mayr von Baldegg

September 28th marks the 60th anniversary of color television hitting the mass market in America, and it's fun to look back to a time when a color screen was a really, really big deal.

RCA created this history of television technology in 1956 to celebrate RCA's contributions. This segment on the arrival or color television explains the technological breakthrough, while waxing poetic about the beauty of color.

The Atlantic Entertanment channel has posted a slideshow of Life magazine's vintage photos of people watching TV over the decades.
