The Boldness of the Episcopal Church's First Openly Gay Bishop

In January 2016, the Anglican Church suspended its Episcopal branch for accepting same-sex marriage. In 2003, the Episcopalian Gene Robinson became the first openly gay priest in a committed same-sex relationship to be ordained a bishop in any Christian denomination. The documentary Love Free or Die tells Robinson’s story, which parallels the conversation underway in many American churches about whether gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people are equal to heterosexuals in the eyes of God.
