The excellent documentary series I Am Los Angeles profiles Alma Velasco, a Salvadoran immigrant who fled to the United States as a teenager. Now a single mother, she's trying to build her family's future in Los Angeles. "What we utilize to get our kids ahead is not the green card," she says. "It's our hands that we use to toil, the effort we put into our job."
