A Rooftop Garden Oasis in Brooklyn

Gordon Hawkins, an artist and gardener, cultivates an elaborate garden hidden above the streets of Cobble Hill.

"My general philosophy, I guess, is to stop and smell the roses ... and sometimes you have to grow them yourself," Gordon Hawkins reflects. He has cultivated an elaborate garden hidden above the streets of Cobble Hill for years. The roof is so packed with flowers, fruit, and herbs that he says fitting everything together is quite a challenge, but well worth the work. Tour the garden in this short documentary from the series New Yorkers, from Moonshot Productions.

New Yorkers is an exploration of various walks of life in the city's boroughs, with profiles of a graffiti artist, and ice sculptor, and many more. The producers of the series discuss the project in an interview with the Atlantic Video channel here
