A little blue creature named Archibald goes in search of a mysterious red dot in Childhood of a Circle, a beautiful animated film by Kadavre Exquis, aka François Grumelin-Sohn. The French graphic designer collaborated with John Kassab, an Australian musician and artist who created the rich, layered soundscape for the film.
The short was about nine months in the making, and began with just the title as a jumping off point. The filmmaker shares some of his painterly backgrounds and other elements that went into the animation on his website, and you can see some panels below. Kassab describes how he developed the warm, retro feel of the audio in an interview with Motionographer.
