Today marks the anniversary of the earliest footage shot on Auguste and Louis Lumière's cinématographe, of workers leaving the Lumière factory in Lyon. Accompanying an illustration of the device, Rebecca Rosen explains, "the camera was an all-in-one device: recording, production, and projection." Apparently, the inventors shot multiple versions of this same scene, so the clip below might actually be a remake. In any case, the 47-second reel and the short films that follow, courtesy of the Internet Archive, are some of the oldest and most iconic works of French cinema, including what might be the first "home video" -- Baby's Lunch.
