The Amsterdam Museum commissioned PlusOne, a creative agency in Amsterdam, to bring its maps and works of art to life with 3-D digital animation techniques for their DNA exhibit about the history of the city. This short segment is an excerpt from Revolt Against King and Church, one of seven films that the agency produced for the 45-minute multimedia experience.
The director of PlusOne, Martijn Hogenkamp, describes the creative development of the project in an in-depth interview with Matt Hunter Ross at Motionographer:
From the start we wanted to visualize the DNA of Amsterdam in a clear way, but the films had to be intriguing and visually appealing at the same time. The aim was to offer the visitors a different perspective of the images (mainly paintings). To achieve this we chose to add an extra dimension by making the images three-dimensional.
