The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Traveler

A filmmaker's video "travel diary" from a year's worth of business flights around the world, including Seoul, Shanghai, Beijing, Chicago, Houston, Dubai, Frankfurt and Vienna

In 2011, Gunther Machu traveled around the world six times, he says, passing through airports in Seoul, Shanghai, Beijing, Chicago, Houston, Dubai, Frankfurt and Vienna. His atmospheric "travel diary" captures that sense of displacement and detachment, as well as the visual poetry of airplanes, runways, clouds, and urban landscapes.
