The 4,748+ Self-Portraits of Jeff Harris

Toronto-based photographer Jeff Harris has done a self-portrait every day for the past 12 years. In this short documentary produced for Time Magazine Lightbox, he reflects on how the project has changed his approach to his work, and his life. The photos include goofy, off-the cuff snapshots, portraits taken by celebrities (see Billy Idol below), and even Harris's battle with cancer. 

The documentary was produced by Natalie Matutschovsky, with editing by Andrew Hinderaker and music by Jonas Colstrup. In her article about the documentary, Matutschovsky describes the range of work that has come out of this epic process:

Regardless of the mood, location or activity at the center of any given image in the series, they all show a marvelously open and generous approach to both diaristically recording and sharing everything from intimate moments to athletic adventures with a wider audience. In fact, Harris evokes the full range of physical experiences a body can encounter: from mundane inactivity to joyful dives to his body being open on the operating table.
