Perhaps the most well known public safety film from the Cold War, Duck and Cover shows Bert the turtle teaching children what to do in the event of a nuclear attack. It was produced by the civil defense branch of the U.S. government in 1951 after the Soviet Union became a nuclear power. While FEMA conducts a nationwide test of its Emergency Alert System on November 9, the Atlantic Video channel brings you a selection of archival films about safety through the ages.
