Together with the community at Snarkmarket, he helped write and edit a 2009 book titled New Liberal Arts. He studied mathematics and philosophy at Michigan State University and received a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature and Literary Theory in 2009, where he was also a postdoctoral fellow teaching the history of writing and the relationships between mathematics, science, and media. He is the founder of a community website called Bookfuturism on the history and future of reading and writing.
