But here’s a rather apt use for GIFs: as a concise way of conveying a small, important moment. NASA’s Curiosity Rover tested one of its wheels for the first time yesterday, and transmitted the film back to scientists on Earth. They then turned the moment into a GIF, communicating the moment in its entirety and very little else. It’s a little filmic haiku. From space.
