Picture of the Day: The Solar Eclipse

Yesterday the moon crossed between the Earth and the sun resulting in an annular solar eclipse. Because the moon was at its farthest from the Earth during the eclipse, the area of the sun it obscured was the smallest possible, and the ring of sun left shining around the moon was the largest. Above, a picture taken from a rooftop in Tokyo, Japan.
