Today marks the 100th anniversary of the day when Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen and four colleagues reached the South Pole. When they arrived, pitching the above tent and flag to mark the spot as best as they could approximate, there was no sign of a competing British expedition led by Robert F. Scott. It was later learned that the British party had not survive the journey.
