Picture of the Day: Historical Image From Apollo 16

Astronaut Charles M. Duke Jr. took this picture on April 22, 1972 while returning from the second extra-vehicular activity (EVA) of the Apollo 16 mission. In the background, the lunar module Orion is visible. Orion was the spacecraft responsible for ferrying astronauts from lunar orbit, down to the moon's surface, and back. Duke was aboard the lunar roving vehicle (LRV) when he took this picture, the the LRV's antenna and RCA color-television camera are visible in the foreground.
