This image of the moon's north pole is a composite of 983 photographs taken by NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera (LROC) over a nine-month period. The pictures were taken at the time of year when this region of the moon is best-lit, and areas in not receiving light may be permanently shadowed.
