Video of the Day: How Massive Ships Are Released Into the Ocean

By Nicholas Jackson

After a massive ship has been built, you have to get it into the water. This usually involves a greased ramp and lots of pulling and pushing. Also, cheering. As you'll see in this compilation video, put together by Instantly Viral and recently resurfaced by BoingBoing, once a ship has been successfully launched, the crew responsible for its construction celebrates with oohs and aahs.

"If you were never quite sure what happened after the pretty lady broke a bottle of champagne against the hull, you might find this amusing," Maggie Koerth-Baker wrote. "Apparently, after all the pomp and circumstance, boats are just kind of unceremoniously dropped into the drink."
