Twitter Suspends, and Then Quickly Reinstates, @YourAnonNews Account

More

Twitter took down the largest Anonymous Twitter account, which has nearly 800,000 followers, following a tweet that included a picture of an email address.

A bit before noon EDT today, Twitter suspended the account @YourAnonNews, the largest Anonymous account with nearly 800,000 followers. A recently established back-up account, @YANBackup, tweeted updates until the account was reinstated about an hour later, reborn into the world with a signature tweet:

Twitter moved to suspend the account after a tweet violated its Terms of Service prohibition against "posting an individual's private information such as private email address, physical address, telephone number, or financial documents." As it explained in a letter:

The tweet in question, included a picture of an email sent to a member of the Westboro Baptist Church whose account had been hacked by Anonymous and included the sender's address. Here's the offending tweet:

This tweet was still available once Twitter reinstated the account.

The tweet was part of Anonymous's effort to harass members of the Westboro Baptist Church after the (disgusting) group announced it would stand outside Sandy Hook Elementary School to "sing praise to God for the glory of his work in executing his judgment."

We have put in a request to Twitter for a statement on the incident and will update this post if one is provided.
