The photograph above -- which, in all its hazy, sweeping grandeur, could be from the Hudson River School -- was taken by Don Savage, standing in southwestern Colorado Springs, looking northwest to the fire's source.

The fire pictured above -- which is called the Waldo Canyon fire -- has destroyed 346 homes.
