Picture of the Day: The Bright, Burning Sun

The good people of NASA have taken images captured by the Solar Dynamics Observatory and manipulated them to give us this cool, strange view of activity on the sun captured last fall. While there is no particular scientific benefit to the additional processing, NASA says, the picture's black background provides a good contrast for a very clear -- and very beautiful -- display of the golden loops of plasma.
