This picture of the beautiful, old machines on the first floor of building number five of Thomas Edison's laboratories in West Orange, New Jersey, considered the first industrial research laboratory. It was taken by Jack Boucher, a photographer for the National Parks Service, in 1963, though much of the equipment dates to the 1880s.
