Picture of the Day: A Grand Optical Illusion From Space

NASA astronaut Don Pettit took this picture of the Grand Canyon from the International Space Station, where he currently lives. In the picture, because of the angle of the lighting, the canyon appears almost in relief, raised above the plateau of the surrounding land, as opposed to carved out below it.
