Various edits of NASA's stunning time-lapse videos of Earth have been going viral since they were made publicly available via the Gateway to Astronaut Photography of Earth. Here is the Atlantic Video channel's version, for example:
How do astronauts on board the International Space Station shoot these amazing images? In this short documentary from NASA hosted by astronaut Mike Massimino, Expedition 29 Commander Mike Fossum talks about how he created the photos that became some of the most eye-opening videos of the year. Aside from a Nikon D3 camera and plenty of moonlight, the most important ingredient is practice -- a benefit of those long-duration missions, he says.
