The former Michigan governor sported a fluffy shirt and a fluffier hairdo as she was courted by three eligible bachelors.
Note to Michigan Republican opposition researchers: Step up your game.
Somehow, no one turned up this epic clip of Jennifer Granholm, the current Current TV host and former Michigan governor, when she was running for office. The 19-year-old Granholm, then a beauty queenwhose unsuccessful bid at a Hollywood career was still in front of her, went on The Dating Game, where she was wooed by three eligible bachelors. Her Farrah Fawcett 'do and high-rise jeans betray the era, but anyone who watched Granholm's rather animated speech at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte won't be surprised by her ability to emote, even then.
Sadly -- or perhaps not -- Granholm's pairing on the show didn't work out. She didn't even go on the Palm Springs getaway with the lucky winner, and is now married to leadership expert and UC-Berkeley faculty member Daniel Mulhern. There isn't much in the clip to indicate that she was on her way to being a successful politician. At one point, she asked contestants to state what mode of transportation women should be built like, and infrastructure was one focus of her tenure as governor, but making any connected there is a stretch.
Granholm took the resurfacing of the clip in stride, telling the Detroit Free Press, "I'm still laughing so hard my stomach still hurts."
