Chris Christie for Vice President!

By Robert Wright

I realize that the smart money has Chris Christie having not made the short list to be Mitt Romney's running mate. But I have my reasons for hoping the smart money is wrong.

First, a guy who, while dancing in a sky box at a Bruce Springsteen concert, "simultaneously bear-hugs and headlocks" his human services commissioner and his community affairs commissioner, can't be all bad. Second, I live in New Jersey, so Christie's getting the VP nod would be a kind of brush with greatness. The third reason occurred to me as I was watching the exchange below, between a Christie detractor and a Christie defender. It isn't that Christie defender Matt Lewis won the argument; it's that I realized that everything Christie detractor Bill Scher dislikes about Christie would make this an extremely entertaining presidential campaign. And, as a bonus: If Scher is right that Christie's entertainment assets are political liabilities, then a Romney-Christie ticket would be unlikely to prevail in November. What's not to like?
