The Obama Rendition of 'Call Me Maybe' You've Been Waiting for Is Here

By David A. Graham

We've just seen this, and this is crazy. But the song is catchy, so watch this maybe?

The arc of the political blogosphere is long, but it bends toward mashups of the president of the United States singing insipidly catchy pop songs.

It's been remarked before that given the Obama campaign's strange, sometimes plaintive, sometimes stalkerish email subject lines, Carly Rae Jepsen's ubiquitous hit "Call Me Maybe" (if you don't think you've heard it, you have) is basically a litany of future Obama fundraising pitches. Obama has indulged his passion for singing before. And the president is tight with Jepsen's mentor Justin Bieber.

Despite all this, he hasn't actually taken the plunge and sung "Call Me Maybe," even as serious policy wonks embrace the song as a framework for discussion. Luckily, Fadi Saleh has stepped up and spliced together video of Obama that gives us a decent approximation of what it might sound like. And really, what better way is there for Obama to recapture lost enthusiasm among young voters?
