Red-meat lover's special: The candidate tries to shore up his working-man credentials and counter Obama's attack over killing Bin Laden.
Not everybody hanging out with New York public safety employees today was an Occupy Wall Street protestor. Elsewhere in town, Mitt Romney -- accompanied by the former mayor of the city, and America, Rudy Giuliani -- visited a firehouse and brought some pies to New York's bravest.
Here's Romney carrying the pizzas into the station. After he picked them up at Joe's on Carmine Street (way better than Papa John's), according to Reuters' Sam Youngman, a wisecracker shouted, "Just don't put 'em on the roof of the car." And here's a photo of the two men enjoying a slice inside:
While Romney's Big Apple pizza-eating technique isn't quite perfect -- just fold it half, guv'nor -- it's still totally acceptable, especially in comparison to erstwhile alleged Republican nomination rival Donald Trump. After eating, Romney held a brief, but extremely rare, press availability with Giuliani. While Romney and other Republicans have complained that President Obama is inappropriately politicizing the killing of Osama bin Laden, appearing with a hero of the 9/11 attacks on the anniversary of Bin Laden's death provides Romney with some decent optics to temper Obama's attacks. And it lets him even the score with Obama in terms of snapshots while hauling pizza.
Check out Chris Danello's analysis of the pizza intelligence of the whole 2012 GOP field from last June. Romney came in at a strong 3.5/5, behind only Herman Cain:
