Iowans hear you making fun of them and complaining about their role in the presidential primary. But they're not taking it sitting down.
As the Iowa caucuses have drawn nearer, the Hawkeye has been in for some criticism. Some of that has been directed at the culture of the state -- like Stephen Bloom's controversial Atlantic essay, which continues to make waves and was featured on NBC's Rock Center Monday night. Other critics have complained that the state is simply unrepresentative of broader American culture or that it has no right to go first.

Well, Iowans may be friendly, but they're aren't defenseless. In a video released Monday, filmmakers Paul Benedict and Scott Siepker fight back. The narration, by Siepker, is a little salty, so it's probably NSFW without headphones. "You heard we're a bunch of kneejerk conservative reactionaries. I guess that's why we went Democratic in five out of the last six presidential elections. How you like me now?" he asks. After a brief tour of the state's finer attributes, he offers an affable farewell: "The next time you fly over, give us a wave. We'll wave back. We're nice! That's right. We're nice. ----wad."
