Video of the Day: The Best Campaign Video This Year, Featuring MC Hammer

By Chris Good

This is unquestionably the best campaign ad of the year.

San Francisco will hold a mayoral election on Nov. 8, with interim Mayor Ed Lee seeking a full term after being appointed to his post when Gavin Newsom, his predecessor, was elected lieutenant governor last year. MC Hammer, San Francisco Giants closer Brian Wilson, Will.i.am, and Twitter co-founder Biz Stone all evidently want him to win.

Lee is the front-runner against more than 10 opponents.

The YouTube video was produced for $18,000 by Portal A Interactive, a media firm comprised of three 27-year-olds based in San Francisco and L.A., at the behest of San Franciscans for Jobs and Good Government, a pro-Lee group backed by Silicon Valley angel investor Ron Conway. The guy who raps the verses is Ashkon, a San-Francisco-based rapper/entertainer/Giants fan who recorded this video with Portal A last year during the Giants' World Series run.

Conway is friends with MC Hammer, according to a spokesman for the group, and reached out to all the celebrities himself. He announced the video on Tuesday in a Huffington Post entry.
