Why Do Liberals Love Wife-Swapping?

By Joshua Green

The numbers don't lie. The audience for one of the creepier shows on television leans pretty far left.

Yesterday, we published a story about how Donald Trump's television ratings were dropping, probably because his birther rantings were driving away his liberal audience. It turns out that, according to audience demographic research supplied by National Media Inc., Trump's show, "Celebrity Apprentice," has the most liberal audience on television. Trump's idiocy aside, the fun feature of the piece is definitely the bubble graph that National Media supplied to us, which shows the relative partisan skew of all the major primetime television shows, along with the likelihood that their viewers turn out to vote. (I've republished the chart above.) It's interesting to see where your favorite shows line up, and a lot of them make a certain kind of sense--"30 Rock," skewing liberal, college football conservative, etc. Also that "Family Guy" viewers are lazy slobs that can't get off the couch to vote. But I've been mildly obsessed with the position of one show that I wouldn't have imagined having a partisan skew, but that clearly does. Take a close look at the second-most-liberal show. That's right: "Wife Swap" on ABC. Would anybody care to hazard a guess about why its audience is so liberal? Because I've thought about it, and I'm completely stumped.
