Media Matters Pays $86,000 for Lunch With Rupert Murdoch

The CEO of Media Matters, a liberal media watchdog group, has won an online auction to have lunch with Rupert Murdoch. The price: $86,000.

Media Matters has based its enterprise, to a large extent, on criticizing Fox News, which Murdoch owns. Media Matters tracks the conservative media and posts daily video clips of the perceived outrages and misinformation of the right-leaning mediasphere. It regularly criticizes Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, and sundry other Murdoch employees.

The group, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, announced today that it has won a "friendly lunch" with Murdoch by bidding $86,000 in an online charity auction benefiting the Global Poverty Project. Its CEO, former journalist David Brock, will attend.

Brock released the following statement:

I look forward to this opportunity to have a friendly lunch with Rupert Murdoch, along with five of my invited guests.  I will soon contact Mr. Murdoch's office to determine a mutually convenient time and place in New York.
