Jerry Brown Takes 10-Point Lead in California

A new Field poll in California shows Jerry Brown leading Meg Whitman for governor by a solid 10 points, well outside the 3.2 percent margin of error. Just last month, Field found the candidates tied at 41 percent. The firm's latest survey, however, puts Brown at 49 percent and Whitman at 39. Seven percent of voters were undecided.

Brown led among women voters by 16 percent and among Latinos by 30 percent.

Whitman's negatives have grown to 51 percent, her highest yet. In September, only 46 percent of voters saw her unfavorably. Her favorability, on the other hand, seems to have hit a plateau of 42 percent. The same percentage of voters -- 47 -- saw Brown unfavorably as in September, but his favorability rating has increased by three points to 47 percent.
