Cornyn: Obama Broke Promise on Immigration

By Chris Good

Today at the National Press Club, Texas Sen. John Cornyn, who chairs the Republican Party's Senate campaign committee, criticized President Obama and Senate Democrats for not taking up immigration as an issue.

Cornyn said:

Immigration reform--something President Obama said he would take up during his first year in office, yet now, going on the ending of the second year, it still hasn't been a priority for him.

Cornyn continued, criticizing his Democratic counterpart, New Jersey Sen. Robert Menendez, chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, for introducing an immigration-reform bill shortly before the Senate adjourned today:

I think this kind of serious subject matter bears much more consideration than simply to be filed the day we adjourn or to be taken up in a lame duck session...

Cornyn and Menendez are holding a joint event at the Press Club today, discussing the campaign season.
