Bingaman previously drafted a very gentle (i.e., carbon cap-less) bill that garnered some bipartisan support; he's currently working on a utilities-only one that Dems hope will attract backing from key Republicans despite -- or because of -- Bingaman's mild-mannered personality.
Mike Allen's Playbook reports that the jousting for Newsweek has come down to two lead suitors: California philanthropist Sidney Harman and billionaire Clinton ally Marc Lasry. According to Allen, both men "have signaled they would keep Newsweek as a traditional newsmagazine, preserving some semblance of the serious-minded, essentially New-Democratic tone set by Jon Meacham."
