Angle Close to Raising $1 Million

By Chris Good

Sharron Angle, the Tea-Party-backed candidate who will challenge Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in the fall, is close to hitting her post-election fundraising target of $1 million, according to her website. After her June 8 primary win, Angle reconfigured her website into a two-page donation center, asking supporters to help her reach $1 million and updating with progress. Right now, the site shows her having raised over $920,000.

Angle is expected to enter her general election race at a multi-million-dollar cash disadvantage to Reid; financial disclosures haven't come out since April, so it's difficult to say just how much each candidate will have. As of their last Federal Election Commission filings, Angle had $430,000 in the bank while Reid had $9.4 million.

We usually don't report on web ads, but Angle is raising money with one that's reasonably entertaining and high-gloss. Greeting visitors to her site, it complains of Reid's "brutal advertising assault that is a slap in the face to all Americans"--Reid launched TV ads soon after Angle won her primary--and urges supporters to donate "...and do it before Harry Reid attacks again."
