Crist, who switched his voter registration to "no party affiliation" yesterday, initially said he would consider giving refunds to those who sought them. But yesterday, his campaign said he wouldn't be giving back the money."People gave to a good cause and we're going to spend it on a good cause," Crist told reporters yesterday. "That's why I'm going to keep it. It's important to be able to get our message out and communicate with the people of Florida."
Even before Crist announced he would leave the GOP to run as an independent, the Club for Growth issued a call for Crist to return donations from Republicans if he left the GOP. Historical context: Sen. Arlen Specter returned some money after he switched parties last spring.
National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn, Wilson reports, is not happy about this.
