Tea Party Nation, the Tennessee-based group that hosted the Tea Party convention in Nashville at which Sarah Palin spoke in February, has been sending e-mails out to supporters, asking them to call Corker's office and pressure him to stop working on the bill.
The group has dubbed Corker "Bailout Bob."
Corker, along with a few other GOP senators, has negotiated with Democrats over Wall Street reforms. It's not the first time Corker has taken on such a role; last year, he was the lead GOP negotiator with Democrats on the proposed auto-industry bailouts.
From a Tea Party Nation e-mail, sent out yesterday:
"Financial Reform" was dead until Corker reached out to Chris Dodd. Now, this terrible bill has a chance of becoming law and helping the Democrats to continue to destroy the economy. We can stop this. Keep the pressure on Bob Corker. The calls are making a difference. When I called yesterday and started talking about this, the staffer became very frustrated, demanding to know where "this rumor" came from. Clearly they have been getting a lot of calls! The staffer first said that Corker "Opposed the bill in it's present form." The he started arguing with me, saying well, if the bill was going to pass anyway, why not try to make it better. Why not simply kill the bill, which is what Corker can do. Even Senators Snowe and Collins have vowed to filibuster this bill. It is that bad. Here is what we need you to do:Keep calling Corker's offices. Those calls are making a difference. I don't care what state you live in, call!Share this email with your friends. Ask them to call as well.If you anywhere near the Nashville area, this afternoon (April 22), at 5 PM, we are going to get as many people as we can, on this short notice, to meet in front of Corker's offices at 3322 West End Ave, to tell him to work for us, not Chris Dodd.If you are in other parts of Tennessee, where Corker has an office, please consider organizing a meet up in front of his office so that his staff knows how the voters feel.
According to Nashville Public Radio, TPN mustered 25 protesters outside Corker's office yesterday.
