An Unlikely Plan To Repeal The Filibuster

What do you do if you lose a 60-seat Senate majority and Washington is locked in partisan stalemate that has everyone talking about the good old days? Well, you could change the rules...that's what Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA) is proposing: according to The Hill, Harkin's staff says he'll introduce legislation before mid-February that would give a simple majority the ability to overcome initial filibusters after a few tries.
It takes 67 votes to change Senate rules, meaning the bill has very, very little chance of succeeding, but The Atlantic Wire's Max Fisher notes that some liberal bloggers think the bill is worth pursuing, even though it's doomed to fail, for the sake of calling attention to the inaction that filibusters effect.
