Before There Was Early Rawls...

... there was undergraduate thesis Rawls. Princeton's Eric Gregory has a paper out discussing the great philosopher's undergraduate work. The link will provide the abstract, I can't afford to acquire the whole thing, but Jon Mandle has an interesting discussion of it. It's interesting to recall that Rawls was, in those days, a student of Walter Kaufmann, who practiced what looks from today's vantage point to have been a very different brand of philosophy.
