Video of the Day: Rick Perry's Ninja Move

At the end of a campaign commercial featuring his wife, the Republican candidate bizarrely drops into the frame

Rick Perry's new campaign commercial is a rather nondescript and warm testimonial from his wife, Anita, for the first 25 seconds. ('Tis the season for candidates to put their wives in feel-good ads, as Politico noticed.)

But at the end, the Texas governor suddenly swoops into the frame in a black long-sleeved shirt to give his legally required seal of approval. "I'm Rick Perry, and I really approve this message," he says with an impish smile.

Between the apparel and the stealthy move, Perry looks rather like a cat burglar or a stagehand, and the whole thing is thoroughly awkward. Democratic consultant Matt Ortega has handily turned the move into an animated GIF.
