Video of the Day: McCain vs. Cheney on Interrogations

After former vice president Dick Cheney said on Sunday that President Obama should "correct" his criticism of Bush-administration interrogation policies, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) disagreed today.

Obama owes no apology to his predecessor, suggested McCain, a former prisoner of war and an outspoken opponent of torture.

"The vote was 90 to six in the United States Senate to prohibit cruel and inhumane mistreatment," McCain said during a CNN interview, when asked straightforwardly if Obama should apologize. "The Senate has spoken, the American people have spoken, the people of the world have spoken. Torturing people in violation of international agreements such as the Geneva Conventions is prohibited and frankly very harmful to the image of the United States of America."

This is hardly the first time McCain has clashed with Bush-administration figures over national-security issues. Though McCain backed the 2007 Iraq "surge," he butted heads with former Defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld over the administration's handling of the Iraq war's early stages, and the Arizona senator has consistently denounced waterboarding as an illegal practice.
