Video of the Day: Elizabeth Warren Is Out for Revenge

More

Updated Oct. 17

This video seems both to mock and support Elizabeth Warren's bid for Senate in Massachusetts. It's pretty effective in both departments.

Actress Molly Erdman nails Warren's pursed, furrowed visage and sense of injustice, rehashing the point Warren made in August about nobody in American getting rich on his/her own:

"You built a factory out there? Good for you," she says. "But I want to be clear: you moved your goods to market on the roads the rest of us paid for; you hired workers the rest of us paid to educate; you were safe in your factory because of police forces and fire forces that the rest of us paid for. You didn't have to worry that marauding bands would come and seize everything at your factory, and hire someone to protect against this, because of the work the rest of us did."

She continues: "Now look, you built a factory and it turned into something terrific, or a great idea? God bless. Keep a big hunk of it. But part of the underlying social contract is you take a hunk of that and pay forward for the next kid who comes along."

Warren, a former Harvard professor who designed and helped launch the Obama administration's Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection, announced last month that she will challenge Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) in 2012. Warren released this video Sept. 14:

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this post stated that the Massachusetts GOP had orchestrated the posting of this video, after a Massachusetts GOP spokesman emailed The Atlantic about this post and subsequently seemed to indicate that the state party had released the video. "Sure did," the spokesman wrote when asked, "Did you guys put that out?" Evidently there was a misunderstanding. The YouTube user who posted the video, and the same Mass. GOP spokesman, later said the Massachusetts GOP had not been responsible for it.
