Americans are quite pessimistic these days, and this gloomy photo of President Obama sitting with advisers in a dark room probably won't cheer them up.

A CBS/New York Times poll on Thursday showed Americans to be more pessimistic about the nation's general trajectory and economic outlook than they've been at any point since early 2009.

In this photo taken at the InterContinental Hotel Chicago on April 15, Obama sits with White House Press Secretary Jay Carney and Senior Advisor David Plouffe before an interview.
