Unrest and The Livingston Group's Former Clients

More

As unrest sweeps across the Middle East, it's also sweeping through the former client list of The Livingston Group, a D.C. lobbying firm headed by former Congressman Bob Livingston.

The Livingston Group continues to lobby for the government of Egypt, according to Department of Justice records, as part of a high-powered lobbying cadre hired by Hosni Mubarak's government in 2007.

The firm also represented Libya until 2009, Politico's Laura Rozen reported Monday:

The Livingston Group canceled its $360,000-per-year lobbying contract with the Libyan government as well as one with an associated Qadhafi charity in September 2009, following the hero's welcome Libyan leaders gave for the convicted Lockerbie bomber upon his release in August 2009 from a Scottish prison on humanitarian grounds.

And Livingston's firm previously represented the government of Morocco, where thousands have protested this week. The firm appears to have lobbied for Morocco from 2003 to 2006. Department of Justice records show lobbying documents filed in 2003, and contracts signed every year up to 2005, the last of which would have placed the firm under contract until the end of Feb. 2006. The contract does not appear to have been renewed.

Livingston, a Republican from Louisiana's first congressional district, nearly succeeded Newt Gingrich as speaker of the House in 1998, when he resigned, admitting an extramarital affair.
