This morning, Democrats begin the process of selling their health care reforms to senior citizens.

With the Senate taking up the House's reconciliation sidecar today, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and other top Democrats will hold a press conference with Bonnie Cramer, chair of AARP's board of directors, to talk about how health care reforms will impact seniors.

Reid and Cramer will be joined by Sens. Chris Dodd, Max Baucus, Tom Harkin, and Robert Menendez, as well as representatives from the American College of Physicians Board of Regents, American Medical Association, American Academy of Family Physicians, National Community Pharmacists Association, and the American Nurses Association.

High on their list of talking points will likely be health reform's closure of the Medicare donut hole. Republicans, meanwhile, have harped on the $455 billion in spending cuts to Medicare and other federal health programs over the next 10 years, while Democrats say the cuts will only eliminate waste, without reducing benefits.

Seniors have been the most skeptical group of Americans when it comes to health reform. In September, Gallup found that 39% of poll respondents 65 or older thought health reform would worsen their own medical care, while 20% thought reform would improve it, despite the AARP having given an unofficial stamp of approval to reform.
