ACLU Morphs Obama into Bush in NYT Ad on Terrorism Trials

The civil liberties community isn't letting President Obama off the hook on terrorism trials: after news last week that Obama's advisers will recommend military trials for Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and the alleged 9/11 conspirators, the ACLU took out a full-page ad in The New York Times (published Sunday) pressuring Obama not to back away from Attorney General Eric Holder's plan to try them in civilian courts.

The ad features images of Obama's face morphing into President Bush's.

The ACLU and other civil-liberties groups have long despised the notion of indefinite military detentions under the broad wartime authority of a war against global Islamic terrorism, and they've raised these concerns with the administration as it has rolled out its strategy for dealing with Guantanamo detainees. Political pressure has mounted around the KSM/conspirators decision, with a threat that Congress will withhold funding for civilian trials, but the left, evidently, is not to be forgotten as a source of political pressure in itself.
