If you're wondering why John McCain felt the need to come out with a pair of aggressive reelection radio ads attacking President Obama--at a time when not too many 2010 candidates have gone up on the airwaves yet--here's your reason: former Rep. J.D. Hayworth (R) is "seriously considering" a primary challenge and shopping the idea to political consultants to gauge their interest, Hotline OnCall's Reid Wilson reports, citing sources close to Hayworth. The former Rep. has been considered a possible candidate, but it's been unclear whether he'd get in the race. A November Rasmussen poll showed him trailing McCain by only two percentage points if he did.
