If Brown Loses...Would He Run For Congress?
By
We may not have seen the last of Scott Brown, the little-known state senator who has risen to become a popular figure among independent voters across Massachusetts, even if he doesn't pull off an upset victory over Democrat Martha Coakley in the state's special Senate election tonight. Politics Magazine's Jeremy Jacobs, who used to cover Massachusetts politics for the now-defunct PolitickerMA, floats an idea:
Brown lives in the Bay State's 3rd Congressional District. If he doesn't win, he could challenge Rep. Jim McGovern (D), one of the most outspoken and liberal members of the congressional delegation, next year.McGovern's district would be a difficult one for a Republican, even a popular one like Brown, to win. McGovern won reelection in 2008 with 98 percent of the vote; his district voted 59 percent to 39 percent for President Obama. But Brown's sudden popularity, and the support he would enjoy from statewide Republican donors, could encourage him to run.
