Organized labor reached a deal with the administration yesterday on the so-called Cadillac tax, included in the Senate health reform bill, on expensive health care plans--which would include the valuable plans unions have fought for over the years for their members. Labor leaders succeeded in raising the price threshold of plans that would get taxed and won a two-year exemption for state and local government employees whose health care plans were bargained by unions. So how is this playing? The Atlantic Wire's Max Fisher reports that liberal bloggers have gotten behind it, while Megan McArdle thinks it could backfire.
